Founded in 1877 in Tavistock Ontario, J.B. Field's was origionally set up to manufacture socks for the logging industry. Today it still remains a family owned business focused on making the world's best socks.

This is a photo of my new pair of J. B. Field's socks next to the pair I bought over 16 years ago. I am a women's US 9 and the one size fits many works well for me, albeit they only fit under my largest winter boots (they are a little big but nice and lofty). Best winter socks I've ever bought and worth every penny.

As I get older I appreciate good work clothing more and more (in my sixties). I work outside in western Canada all winter and good socks are a must. None of the retail stores in my area that carry workwear seem to realize that a knee-high sock compliments a tall boot such as the Dunlop or Viking caulks. I searched out a wool knee-high sock online and the -50 Icelandic caught my eye. The price was very good and the service including shipping was outstanding. The fact that these socks are made in Canada helped with my decision to purchase a couple of pairs. After several weeks of wearing them, I have to say they are everything the manufacturer says they are. I should mention that I wear them as an over-sock somewhat like a liner. They get doubled over above the calf at the top and do not slip down.

These are my husbands favourite sock, worn with the thin merino military liner. They hold their shape very well and wick moisture away from feet. The only reason I gave four star and not five is because I cannot wear them as I have large calves and the tops are a little tight on me. If you have larger calves, the Icelandic 40below are perfect, still incredibly thick and warm, hold their shape but have enough give at the top.
All around, this line of socks are amazing

This are -15C or colder socks! Almost thick enough to use as slippers inside too. Not tight, just right on my foot and calves.

During outside activities such as snowmobiling, snow blowing, shovelling snow and ice fishing, my feet stayed warm even when they got a little damp from sweat. Also, the socks are not itchy like other types of wool i have tried. i bought one pair to try them out. Afterwards, i ordered 3 more pairs.

Nice thick socks. I wear them year round they wear pretty good, usually get about 2 months of use per pair.

Been buying these sox's since they were $8 bucks a pair best sox's ever for working outside in the winter. I wear them all year long keep the feet nice and soft, don't sweat.

I ice fish and hunt and am always looking for socks to keep my feet without spending a fortune on heated socks and stuff like that. These have been great while sitting in the deer stand; I had them paired with lacrosse 1600 gram boots and even produced a bit of sweat so I’m sure they will be overkill paired with my baffins. They are comfortable and stay nice after washing. My only gripe is they are very tight on the calf but I have large legs so you’ll have that on your bigger jobs.
